Being an Amcrest security video user, I decided to give the Amcrest GO 4K Action Camera a go. The camera is small, all plastic, that comes with many accessories, including an underwater/waterproof case. For under $50, this is what you get:
- 1 x 4K Action Camera (AC4K-600).
- 1 x Waterproof Case.
- 1 x Bicycle Mount.
- 1 x Back Clip.
- 2 x Adhesives.
- 1 x Mount Connector.
- 2 x Helmet Mounts.
- 1 x USB Charging Cable.
- 1 x Li-Ion Battery.
- 1 x User Manual.
My experience
Is an additional gadget that can help with 4K footage; particularly if you do not want to dedicate your mobile phone to those duties. In fact, one is able to use their phone to control it. It is a great piece of hardware.
I also bought a phone tripod to attach the camera for testing, and was pleased with the footage. Video can be a bit shaky, but there is an option to reduce it, if recordings are below 4K.
The camera records 4K @60fps, 1080p @ 120fps. It also has options for snapshot and slow motion recordings. Paired up with a 128 GB microSD card, there is plenty of storage for recording: over 5 hours with 4K @60fps footage. Just ensure that the memory card is Class 10 UHS-I U3.
For footage longer than 10 minutes, the camera will automatically create a new file.
The media files
For every video clip, there are 3 files created:
- MP4 file – H.264 compressed video file
- SEC file – Provides a few seconds of footage. It can be renamed to MP4
- THM file – Will provide a thumbnail. It can be renamed to JPG
Connection and Camera
There is no need to remove the microSD card. You can copy the files with the included micro USB cable. Options to charge, or use as mass storage can be chosen.
Is it worth?
Why not. Get a pair, and in combination with your main camera, you have multiple angle footage for your YouTube productions. You can also take this underwater or take it on your gravel bike tour. It wont hurt if it does brake.
